What we do!

  • The major research interest of the Glycobiology group for the past 30 years
is focused on understanding the structure-function relationship of lectins
recognising cancer associated antigens to develop them as diagnostic tools
    and therapeutic agents.
  • To develop recombinant lectins with therapeutic applications in
    collaboration with Unichem Labs.
  • To develop pest resistant transgenic plants.
  • Another aspect of the study is focussed on assigning the physiological role
    of lectins.

Targets Achieved

  • Crystal structure of SRL and RVL was determined.
  • Developed Recombinant lectins as anticancer drugs, awaiting for clinical trials
  • Physiological role of SRL and RBL assigned in the development of the fungi
  • CSL and AOL are involved in causing mycotic keratitis.

Voice of leaders

"Lectins and Glycobilology" lab at the Department of Biochemistry, Karnatak University has remained in the forefront of biochemical research in the country. It has received recognition at various stages of its growth. The recognition is mainly due to extensive long term collaborations with National and International laboratories and pharmaceutical Industries, attracting students.

The Lectins and Glycobiology labs has attracted and motivated students to take up research in emerging area of Biochemistry and medicine. We have shaped young minds to grab the opportunities and convert it to possibilities which are reflected in their placement.
